Kevan Hall Talks about Plus Women in Fashion

The Washington Post has a great article in today’s paper about the debate of plus size women in fashion.  The Post addresses the recent debate of model sizes, V magazine, and celebrity sizes.  They post also talks with L.A. based designer Kevan Hall who created the gown that Gabby Sidibe wore to the Globes.  He has worked with a lot of actresses who are not the typical hanger and he says “it’s all about picking the right silhouette for her shape.”

And it doesn’t matter if a woman is a size 2 or a size 16, “you’re always treading lightly. I’ve had actresses who are a size 2 stand in front of me and weep. I’ve had young girls who want to cover their arms and older women who want to cover their arms,” he says. The most significant difference in creating a dress for a larger size is that often a designer has to tamp down his ego. He can’t as easily force his vision onto the woman since she doesn’t have the physique of a hanger.”

Kevan Hall addressed a truth the fashion industry knows very well.  It is much easier for a designer to design clothing for a hanger then it is for someone with curves.  If it was just as easy to design for women with curves as it is for straight sizes, I can guarantee you that there would be a lot more high level designers designing plus clothing.

Hall goes on to say, “But at the end of the day, it’s always really about the client.  Let’s be realistic, after all. What is the end-use of these clothes?”  As we know, and Madison Plus is working to address, the end use of clothing is to present the best version of you to the world!  Clothing is another version of expression and we should all be able to equally express ourselves to the world.  Calling all designers!  Take note!

Ok, good model (like usual), but the dress… Well, its not that bad… Actually it is not bad at all, pair it with a light brown waist belt and it would look brilliant. But you see how the dress jutts out underneath her breasts? That adds inches to her stomach. She is probably a smaller than what she looks like in this picture. If the dress was tighter right underneath there, or (like I said) add a belt it would solve this issue. »Always remember ladies… If you are a pear or triangle or any shape with a waist ALWAYS make sure you show that off! Always be confident in your best feature. If you don’t know what it is, send me a picture of you to my e-mail, I will help. :)« Anyways, do you agree with this belt idea?

Speaking of bathingsuits (two posts ago) this suit is fabulous… I know it may be kind of old lady but look at the support it has in her chest! (very important component!) One way to make it more modern and sexy would be a v-back… You know, like a v-neck sweater, only with a deep v on the back rather than a u-shape. I would make it looowwww like where her back dimples would be, maybe right above that. It would make the suit more edgy and sexy. What do you think?

Hello beautiful!! Ok, the dress- gorgeous *actually I would like it shorter, above the knee* The necklace- brilliant (however, she would look good without it too) The shoes- They are fabulous with the necklace. The model- classy, lovely The hair- ewwwww… Ok, her roots aren’t looking too good, when your roots are like this wear your hair down, or if it must be up make it loose… I have never been a big fan of slicked back pony tails to begin with. *Imagine* her with her hair in loose beautiful curls rolling down. Sigh,That is what I am talking about!
