YFF Bloggers Conference (by Madison Plus)

Erica and I paid a visit this past Friday to the YFF Bloggers Conference meet and greet at Re/Dress in Brooklyn. It was great to meet in person all the fabulous bloggers that we have been working with over the months. We got to meet all the fabulous ladies who put this weekend together Gabi, Sakina, Melinda, J, Hayley, Christina, Mimmi & Peppi, and Nicolette. We are such huge supporter of them and their fabulous style.

They spent there first two days meeting with Torrid, Evans and Monif C. They got to preview Torrid’s new denim line and spent the morning with Evans previewing there Fall line, plus a sneak peak at Beth Ditto’s new line. If that was not enough they then paid a visit to Monif Cat her store in midtown got to have some lunch and shop. Saturday they spent the day with Maddy at Plus Model Mag working on their August issue, we are super excited to see how the photo shoot turns out.

Pity Party= OVER

If you guys read the post about my mourning about Crystal Renn’s recent weight loss. I am over it. I still think she is a great model, and I am still slightly worried about her health. But I will not let it get me down like it did when I first saw those images.

Turns out it is my life, I am not Crystal Renn, and I will not turn out like Crystal Renn. In the words of some encouraging followers via e-mail, I will “blaze my own trail”. Not to mention, I don’t only want to model, I want to ACT so badly. So, that sets me different from Crystal Renn. I want to be a modern day Marylin Monroe, without the young death part. :)

I am ready to pave my way through, signing with Wilhelmina of PA this Friday. That is only the beginning.

<3 Happy week everyone!

How was your weekend?!@?!?

MP City Style: Comfort and Style in Pittsburgh

July 5, 2010

By Madison Plus

Like everyone else, I have a bit of a crazy life. Full time job, part time student, model, photographer and fashion blogger. So, most of the time when I style myself in the morning I style myself for COMFORT. It isn’t the most fun I have had with my wardrobe, but it has helped me become more creative. I am all about bold crazy tops, paired with comfortable jeans or leggings. If I am feeling daring maybe some heels with it, to tie it together.

But I have learned that it is OK, not to wear a dress everyday. All you need is killer accessories!!! - Mandy

Me on Madison plus!! :D I am meeting the ladies of MP in NYC this weekend! :D

Long-Overdue: My Wilhelmina Meeting.

As I shared with all of you beautiful people, I went to Wilhelmina for a meeting on Monday. For those just now hearing about this, I submitted pictures online, they invited me to an open call, now they want to sign me. (MIND YOU it’s only the Wilhelmina in PA)! Note: I tell a story with my links, click on them! :}

My mom being the GOD SEND that she is, agreed to take off work and drive me to Harrisburg to meet with the Kelli Walters (Harman) owner of Wilhelmina of PA this past Monday. I am glad she did because as it turns out there are a lot of fees/training tools I need to pay before getting work with Wilhelmina. When I first found out about this I got nervous. The gist is there are several people saying they are a scam because of these fees. But as you might have seen earlier I asked famous model Lizzy Miller about the fees and she said this. Which doesn’t exactly make me feel a whole lot better, but at the same time it all makes sense. Wilhelmina of PA is there to help prepare you to get to Wilhelmina of NYC/LA/Miami or whatever. It’s a development agency, a mother agency. I have called Wilhelmina in NYC about the office in PA, and I can move up from them. As a matter of fact, when I went to NYC that’s exactly what the lady told me to do while I was in Wilhelmina. So it can’t be a scam.

But anyways, I knew all of this before I showed up to this meeting. I did hours of research about it, because a lot of people (Tyra Banks) say that you can be successful in modeling without paying a thing. Which is true, for the agencies I have been with thus far (I got one job after 2 years)- but it isn’t true with bigger agencies like Ford or Wilhelmina. You have to pay for comp cards, fed ex fees, photo shoots, classes, etc. Those usually come out of your account when you sign with them, but these peeps charge it ahead of time. But yea…

SO back to Monday, we got there on time. I was all nervous, but I was glad my mom was with me because I tend to act on an impulse. I knew if they gave me the contract I would feel obligated to sign it. And sometimes I don’t pay attention to details in paper work.

We first go to the wrong floor of the building because I made a mistake (typical), then we walk into the office. NOT as glamorous as the NYC office, but not shady either. While we wait the girl at the front desk hands us the contract to look over before we meet with the head honcho. The contract seems pretty decent, but the money is due within the first 4 weeks of your contract being signed… Which is why I am not “signed” yet, I don’t have all of the money yet.

Then we go in to talk to the lady, she is really nice, an ex-model, and didn’t seem shady at all. That made me feel better. She kept the meeting short and sweet. Basically I told her that I have one more full semester of college, so that might come in the way of me being able to attend jobs. She said that was completely fine. I also told her that I want to progress to Wilhelmina in NYC. I had a lot of energy talking to her, I think she was surprised. She just smiled. I think its hard for skinnier models to understand why I am modeling in the first place. haha But here: check out the other models they have for plus models… So, I am pretty sure I am not like any of them. I’m kinda different. haha Don’t know how else to explain it. Most of them are smaller too.

Wow, this post is long. But yea, I didn’t sign the contract yet. I left with it, I did that on my own, my mom was like sure sign it now. I had to remind her that I had no money. hahaa Then we left, and I fake studied for my midterm the next day. (Probs failed)

Kelli (owner of Wili of PA) said most of my jobs will be in Philly… Ugh, a 6 hour drive from where I live. But whatever, I will figure out how to get there. I am ready for this. I am ready to take a chance and if it turns out to be a complete waste of money (I will bitch-blog a LOT about it) I will press on. I am not even close to ready to give up on this dream, so whether or not the world is ready for it.

Here I come.

So, you know my dilemma with Wilhelmina PA? How they ask for a sum of money up front? Well, I asked famous plus-size model Lizzie Miller via Facebook! And this is what she said! She really helped me, but I still will have some questions for them once I get to see them face to face on Monday!! :D
I am really excited thinking that they are not a scam and an actual good agency! That could mean I will ACTUALLY get some work! :D You would think I would from being with two agencies for over a year, but yea, I got one job. Oh well, Wilhelmina PA is lookin’ pretty darn good right now!! HOORAY!!
(p.s. That doesn’t mean I am giving up on Ford Models, I can always work for them in NYC or CALI while working in PA!)

FYI: I did not wear this out except for my backyard fire escape. Not to say I wouldn’t I just wanted it in an outfit post. I have really been digging rompers, and sandals with socks lately.

This hat tends to hide my eyes quite well, but honestly I don’t mind it much. The hat is so mod and fabulous I don’t mind covering up some of my face to show it off. But here are more pics of my head in case it bothered you. ;-)

Last summer no one wanted to believe that the rompers were coming back in style! But I bought this red one last summer at Salvation Army and I loved it, very flattering to my curvy body. This one is a little more of a challenge, its tighter.

These socks really give my outfit a much needed splash of color. And there is nothing better than royal blue with black and white.
hat: thrifted ($4), romper: thrifted ($3), necklace: ModCloth ($12), socks: ModCloth ($10), shoes: ModCloth ($70)

This tribal print is so 80’s and so busy. I really like it. I think the necklace draws away your attention from the print to it, making it AWESOME because I adore cameras. What do you think?

Trying to be ^.
So tired… Time for bed.
Just thought I would let you people know that Wilhelmina of PA called me back! They want me to model for them. The problem? They want $1,700 (for “professional” photos, comp cards, marketing tools, and a class) that I don’t exactly have.
Scam? I have no clue. I really need some answers.
Am I settling for Wilhelmina when I really have my eyes on Ford? Yea, that is probably what is happening. But it is so hard to keep my eyes on them when they aren’t interested in me. :(
So, today has been a whirlwind of emotions and endless thoughts. Not sure what to do. help me?

Warhol’s Wonderwall
So, I dictionary.com’ed what wonderwall meant (you know from the song by Oasis) and there was no definition… haha But nevertheless, I am listening to this song now. ModCloth had a lovely event at The Andy Warhol Museum :) we all got to dress up as fancy or as casual as we wanted. Of course I took the fancy route. ;)

Naturally there is a ridiculous photo of me looking like a flamingo with one leg… hahaaa But this is my dress, It is a steamers nightmare and a movie stars dream. I felt so glamorous in it, also it was insanely comfortable.

The dress is from ModCloth, back when I first started at ModCloth about a year ago, but I got it on sale. :) I paired it with my hair down and some gladiator sandals (also ModCloth), to look less formal. I was sort of worried I was going to be the only one dressed up! haha

My outfit was extremely linear haha. We are outside of museum in these pictures not the most beautiful back drop, but it works.

Kevin and I ended up eating before we came which was stupid because they had SOOOOO much food and alcohol. But we ate this:

(there was a nice pole blocking me from looking into his eyes lol) and we nomm’ed on this:

It was a lovely night, after all of these festivities we went out for his friends birthday. I ended up having one drink too many and became extremely social with many strangers, (that is also me when I am sober haha) but it was a successful night over all. :)

Such a Lovely day.

This day was awesome. Kevin and I were on our way to get Thai and we saw a photo opp. :) I will be showing more pics of the food later. :} It was delicious as always. We were also going to change in the car to go to a big event at my work! :) It was at the Andy Warhol Museum. But these are outfits before the party’s “BIG CHANGE” (it was a black tie kind of event).

As you pple will learn, I dress for comfort. NOT ALWAYS, but for work, when I sit for 8 hours then go to class for 4 its allllll about comfort. lol

However, comfort to me doesn’t mean sweatpants. I mean sure it does at home! But jeans and a nice shirt is comfortable enough for me! I really like this shirt it is maternity but I feel sooo flowy and pretty in it! :) I am also obsessed with crazy patterns/florals. ITS SUMMER! That is my excuse. ;)

Shoes are awesome. lol

Top: Maternity (no im not preggers)

Target Jeans: Borrowed from a friend

Leather wedges+ necklace: ModCloth

Purse: Prada (I wear it with everrrryyythingggg)

I know its a little late to ask, but how was your weekend???
