Erica and I paid a visit this past Friday to the YFF Bloggers Conference meet and greet at Re/Dress in Brooklyn. MP City Style: Comfort and Style in Pittsburgh

July 5, 2010

By Madison Plus

Like everyone else, I have a bit of a crazy life. Full time job, part time student, model, photographer and fashion blogger. So, most of the time when I style myself in the morning I style myself for COMFORT. It isn’t the most fun I have had with my wardrobe, but it has helped me become more creative. I am all about bold crazy tops, paired with comfortable jeans or leggings. If I am feeling daring maybe some heels with it, to tie it together.

But I have learned that it is OK, not to wear a dress everyday. All you need is killer accessories!!! - Mandy

Me on Madison plus!! :D I am meeting the ladies of MP in NYC this weekend! :D

Inspired.

Today was much better than yesterday! Started off feeling super refreshed to wake up to a 99% clean room! I am finishing the 1% after a quick yoga session. :)

Went to class got to play poker IN CLASS, I love Casino and Gaming! Then ran off to work because they had a catered a Qdoba lunch for the office, because we are so darn cool. :} Then found out they wanted me to work a few hours helping with a few random things! I thought was pretty fun actually. I love helping in any way that I can and I needed the extra hours.

Next found out that my post/outfit photo was posted on Madison Plus!!! They have a fabulous blog, and are really up-to-date on the plus size world! :D So, that was cool!

Following that, I heard back from the make-up artist for my shoot this Saturday! I am getting my makeup done by MAC! :D Unfortunately, it isn’t a crazy make-up shoot, just a natural look. Our inspiration for this shoot on Saturday? ANTHROPOLOGIE! That is the look that Wilhelmina told me to get more of, so here I go! :) Also, I am in the process of doing a quick photo shoot with one of my good friends Sam this weekend perhaps.

Did I mention Kevin and I are running off to DCL after my shoot this Saturday?

FINAL and BIGGEST piece of news: A designer has contacted me on shooting some of her plus size swimwear! I will be on her tags, her suits will be sent to Torrid, and even possibly in a few magazines! :D I will give you all the details when I get the bathing suits!

Today was a great day. Was yours???? <why can’t I select the button on the right to check that you can answer? (Well, hit reply on the top of this post)…

MP City Style: Pittsburgh

May 18, 2010

By Madison Plus

Who said small cities don’t have fashion, the lovely Mandy is here as our guide to all things about being a fashionable curvy girl in Pittsburgh, PA.

“Pittsburgh isn’t exactly a hot spot for fashion, they tend to be a bit behind when it comes to trends. However, sometimes you just have to go your own way and do your own thing! Which is what I have always been pretty good at. I am a huge thrift-er, and that is one fabulous thing about this city. There are a lot of Goodwill’s, and Salvation Army’s all the while being completely stocked with old unique items. I could thrift shop all day!

My favorite item here is my scarf. This scarf was thrifted (go figure) and I really like using scarves as a neck pieces. I just think a good scarf can really pull an outfit together, or add that “wow” factor. I have been using this style for about a year now, and have gotten a lot of compliments! So, give it a try ladies!” – Mandy

Sail Away with Crystal and Chanel

By Madison Plus

Not all rumors are false!!

Plus size supermodel Crystal Renn made our dreams come true today when she walked the runway for Chanel 2011 Resort Collection in St. Tropez today (waiting for more images). We are happy to see that Karl Lagerfeld is now adding some new curvy shapes to his runway, and we are hoping that Lagerfeld continues on with this for fall fashion week and has put his dislike of plus size girls behind him.

Post by Madison Plus! I had to spread the word my dears! Now I am going to clean and not come back on tumblr until it’s done! haha

Kevan Hall Talks about Plus Women in Fashion

The Washington Post has a great article in today’s paper about the debate of plus size women in fashion.  The Post addresses the recent debate of model sizes, V magazine, and celebrity sizes.  They post also talks with L.A. based designer Kevan Hall who created the gown that Gabby Sidibe wore to the Globes.  He has worked with a lot of actresses who are not the typical hanger and he says “it’s all about picking the right silhouette for her shape.”

And it doesn’t matter if a woman is a size 2 or a size 16, “you’re always treading lightly. I’ve had actresses who are a size 2 stand in front of me and weep. I’ve had young girls who want to cover their arms and older women who want to cover their arms,” he says. The most significant difference in creating a dress for a larger size is that often a designer has to tamp down his ego. He can’t as easily force his vision onto the woman since she doesn’t have the physique of a hanger.”

Kevan Hall addressed a truth the fashion industry knows very well.  It is much easier for a designer to design clothing for a hanger then it is for someone with curves.  If it was just as easy to design for women with curves as it is for straight sizes, I can guarantee you that there would be a lot more high level designers designing plus clothing.

Hall goes on to say, “But at the end of the day, it’s always really about the client.  Let’s be realistic, after all. What is the end-use of these clothes?”  As we know, and Madison Plus is working to address, the end use of clothing is to present the best version of you to the world!  Clothing is another version of expression and we should all be able to equally express ourselves to the world.  Calling all designers!  Take note!
